The Materials
At Lee Wah, we source premium materials from USA, UK, and Europe, and employ modern framing techniques from the USA. All our mouldings are only made from premium wood (not MDF or plastic) or premium grade aluminium, matboards are all acid free types, and all frames are hand built and inspect by a real person right here in Hong Kong. We build every frame from our own studio, empowered by our team of designers and specialist craftsman. The result? Wonderfully and perfectly made frame that is unique just for your art.
Photo Printing Paper & Inks
If you choose to upload your digital images to do the framing, it will be printed on premium lustre paper using a professional grade 12- colours pigment ink printer. Your photo will be dry mounted to an acid free matboard using an archival adhesive film.
Frame
Your frame is uniquely built from your personalised design, which is hand finished by our framing masters. Our tailor-made frames are 100% assembled in Hong Kong using most framing materials from top manufacturers from Italy, the UK and the USA. We never use off the shelf or plastic moulding. You can be assured your frames are built to its highest standard.
Mat-Board
Aka mount-board or passe-partout. We use premium acid-free matboard from Crescent Cardboard Company, made in the USA. It is typically used to surround the art and seperate it from the glass. It will then be cut depending on the size of your artwork and the matboard width.
Mounting
We mount your art onto the same type acid-free matboard which provides support and protections. We mount your art depending on its material types. For example, we use high quality archival adhesive to dry mounting reprintable photos, and hinge mount for original / limited edition art etc.
Glazing
Most art should be glazed in order to protect it from external damages and harmful pollutants. We have a range of glazing available, ranging from clear glass and gallery grade 3mm acrylic, to specialist art glazing such as 99% UV filter coated Museum Glass and Anti-Static properties Museum acrylic. Back Board
Your frame is protected by a backing board. It protects your art from external damages, as well as provide structural support to the frame, making it to last.
Finishing & Hanging Hardware
Your frame will be sealed using framer’s gum tape to help protecting it from dust and insect damages. It will also be fitted with hanging wire that is appropriate to your frame. We use vinyl coated stainless steel picture wire imported from the USA. Which is extremely durable, rust resistance, and safe to handle.
Overall
To achieve artwork preservation, we normally protect your art by sandwiching it between two pieces of acid free matbaords - together with the glazing and backing board, this whole package will be sealed, providing a truly protective micro-environment from dust and insect damages, as well as blocking other impurities from the frame and backing board.
